William Moorcroft began independently producing his art pottery creations in 1913 at his factory in Burselm, Stoke-on-Trent, England; although it is generally considered he established his reputation for design and craftsmanship while working at a studio within the James McIntyre & Co. Ltd. He started there 1897 at the age of twenty-four.

William first worked for James MacIntrye & Company as a designer for his ceramics factory from 1898 to 1913, before starting his own pottery company.
